Ping pong, also called table tennis, is a simple game that can be played anywhere, even in your own home. A table to play the game on is also relatively easy to assemble. You'll need a table that is 5 feet wide, 9 feet long and 30 inches high, which you'll then paint and assemble a miniature tennis court onto. You'll also need the equipment for playing the game like paddles and ping pong balls. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

Create the base for the table with planks of two by two lumber. Cut two pieces 9 feet long and two more to 5 feet. Attach these boards with wood screws to make a rectangular frame 9 feet long and 5 feet wide.

Cut two sheets of smooth plywood to 5 feet by 4 1/2 feet each. The plywood should be at least 1/4 inch thick; the thicker you can get it, the better. Lay the two pieces onto the table frame, making sure the seam in between them is in the very middle of the table, and secure the plywood to the frame with wood glue and clamps.

Measure and cut four more two by two boards into legs. These legs should be 30 inches long minus the thickness of the tabletop--this means they will be 29 3/4 inches long if the tabletop is 1/4 inch thick. Once the tabletop's glue is dry, attach the legs to the table with wood screws, making sure they form an even rectangle underneath the table.

Paint the tabletop with enamel paint. This can be any color, though most ping pong tables are green. Once this paint is dry, paint white lines 3/4 inch wide along the table's edges and another line 1/8 inch wide. Use masking tape on the table to help make the lines straight and exact.

Attach a ping pong net to the table; if you use clamps, you won't need to drill holes in the table. The net should be 5 feet long--the length of the table's width--and 6 inches high. You can get this net from any sporting goods store, along with the paddles and balls you'll also need.
