Memorial tables are tables devoted to remembering and honoring a loved one. The most important part of the memorial table is a photograph of the loved one. Some people choose to place a large, professional portrait of the loved one prominently in the center of the table. Other people choose to display several different photographs, perhaps of the loved one at special occasions or with other family members. Sometimes a collage of photos will be created by family members on a sturdy piece of card stock, then displayed on a small easel on top of the table. Other times a scrapbook of photos and memories might be created, which can also be placed on an easel, laid flat on the table or held up by bookends.

Flowers and candles are traditionally used to decorate memorial tables. Candles can vary widely in design. Sometimes tall candles are placed on either side of the loved one's portrait to honor him and highlight his photo. Other times several votive candles may be used to represent prayers, as is the tradition in many religions.

Flowers are also used to decorate a memorial table. Usually, one large arrangement is placed on the table behind, near or spread around the photo display. Oftentimes, other flower arrangements are placed on the floor under and around the table. Depending on the size of the table, more than one arrangement may be placed on top of the table. Chrysanthemums are the most popular flower for memorial tables, but often the loved one's favorite flowers are featured as well.

The third element of a memorial table is the display of personal or important items. For example, any awards the loved one was awarded--such as medals of honor--are usually displayed on the table. Sometimes items that held special meaning for the loved one are displayed as well. For veterans, the flag is usually displayed in a special case. In addition, a guest book is sometimes offered for the guests to sign if the memorial table is being set up at a funeral, memorial service or reception.
