While publishing the HTML for a table online is fairly cut and dry, it is also fairly boring. Because there is not a lot of formatting available for tables, you are limited in what you can do with HTML to improve a table's appearance online. One feature that you can use to jazz up the tables on your HTML page is a CSS style sheet. CSS works along with HTML to improve or alter the appearance of HTML. If you are familiar with HTML, using CSS coding is not difficult.

Instructions

Locate the top line, which should read something like:

Place your cursor at the end of the line and press "Enter" to create a new line.

Type the following on the new line:

style="background-color:yellow;border:3px dashed black;">

The style commands of "yellow," "3px" and "dashed black" all can be changed.

Replace "yellow" with any other color to adjust the background color of the table.

Replace "3px" with a larger or smaller number to change the thickness of the border around the table.

Replace "dashed black" with something like "solid" to replace the way the border appears around the table.
